Leut's Theory

Well, here's my take on the entire Jersey Devil legend: there is something out there. I don't know what it is, but I think there's definitely some reason that people see something they can't explain. I don't believe that the entire state and its neighbors could have been thrown into a state of emergency situation over nothing. And I do not believe that mass hysteria could have been that powerful in 1909 so that people in one area could "think" they see something, and then several hours later someone else in a different area also "thinks" they see something. I'm sure that someone really did see something. I've had the opportunity to discuss sightings with modern day witnesses as well, normal every day people, who continue to tell 100% bullet-proof stories about strange things that have happened to them, and strange creatures that they've watched. I believe that something definitely took place in order to make these people tell these stories (which are usually told in an uncomfortable manner, as no one really likes to admit that they might have seen the Jersey Devil or any other potential cryptids). It is unfortunate that there have been so many people trying to fool the rest by creating hoaxes and fake devils for their own profit, because those are the people who ruined the face of the Jersey Devil legend. Personally, I believe it is possible that the Jersey Devil is nothing more than a highly intelligent undiscovered biological entity. Whatever it is, it has shown behavior quite similar to any creature - nocturnal habits, carnivorous, etc. It probably suffers from the spider complex (It's more scared of us than we are of it) and runs off at the sight of humans, without harming a soul. I enjoy the legend tie-in as to the legend aspects. I also have a few theories on the legend tie-in, like perhaps Mrs. Leeds was a woman who saw the Jersey Devil and somehow became accredited with giving birth to it. Who knows? But until someone proves that there isn't something out there, I will continue my efforts to find the proof required to answer the question, "What is the Jersey Devil?" - whatever that answer may be.
