I would like to warn you immediately before getting too far into this summary. There are many strange things
that have happened to us within the nights of this trip and several previous nights. Strange things that we can't
explain. We are not going to immediately jump to conclusions, however it is quite interesting to note that all
this activity has recently taken place.
What I am about to write to you is absolutely, 100% exactly what happened. All of us will swear on our lives
that this is true. Some of it may be a bit unbelievable, but it really happened. We're not going to try and cram
our ideas and theories down your throat. Feel free to form your own opinions. Just take all the information into
consideration first...
Off on the trip:
So we met up at work at around 10 or 11am and headed out to Jackson. We didn't find much out there, except for
these strange tracks that looked like deer with claws. We decided that
we should return to Jackson later on that night, and we picked out a small plot that would be perfect for our
intentions. Then we packed up our stuff and headed out to Toms River. Shawn had to work that evening, so he
left and it was just me, Jim, and Mike for the remainder of the hunt. The three of us stopped off at the same
park that we had heard all the strange things from a few nights before. This time, since we had daylight on our
side, we weren't half as freaked out, and calmly walked back into the area to scout out the terrain.
We immediately stumbled onto something noticeable within the first 10 feet into the woods. On Devil Hunt #6,
I reported that Jim and I heard something drop behind us, something that sounded like a baseball hitting the
ground. And lo and behold, right in the area that we had heard the sound, there sat a tennis ball. It is true
that there is a recreational park not too far beyond the woods, but there is no way it could have come from
there. The noise we heard would have been much greater if the tennis ball had been thrown from the field, due
to the immense distance. Besides, we heard the noise around 2:30am - the recreational fields close at dusk,
and there was no one else in the park at the time. I got chills when I saw the ball... Jim and Mike also
agreed that it sounded like a ball dropping from a tree above. We tested it, and the sound was remarkably
similar.
Next thing we found: the entire area was covered in prints. They could have been deer prints, we weren't
sure (we didn't have Shawn with us to determine that, either). We were just surprised to find so many in an
area that is usually frequented by a lot of people on a daily basis.
Here comes the unbelievable part...
We were walking calmly throughout the woods, surveying the area. We were heading east, and at that point
had only heard a little amount of rustling in the bushes, which could have just been squirrels. Off in the
distance, a few dogs were barking frantically. And then we heard it.
Coming from the western direction behind us, we heard something that none of us have ever heard before in our
lives. A sound that gave us chills. We heard a high pitched screeching noise, similar to a woman screaming
but without the human aspects of a voice. It was a shrill noise, very loud for its distance. None of us
could come up with any explanation for it, either. The screech lasted for about 2-3 seconds, starting off
high in pitch and ending at a slightly lower (yet still high) tone. We all turned, and gazed off in the
direction for any signs of movement. Nothing. The noise had originated too far from our location to see
what could have been causing it.
Now we aren't jumping to conclusions, immediately claiming to have heard the Jersey Devil. But we will
say that we heard something we have never heard before, and that we can not come up with any logical
explanation for it. All three of us heard it, and none of us have any idea as to a source. We headed out
in that direction, but unfortunately came up with nothing.
As for the rest of the trip...
Although our Jackson night trip was incredibly scary, we came up with nothing conclusive about the
Jersey Devil. I think it was because it was probably hanging out in Toms River for the night. We headed
back out to the park later, with all our audio equipment just in case the noise repeated itself again.
Nothing. We headed down to the river, and still came up empty handed. We are incredibly disappointed that
we had left our audio equipment out in the truck when we heard that screech in the woods. Of course, it
figures. Here we are trying to get any form of evidence we can, and we hear the screech when we're not
equipped with anything... This is a foolish mistake that we will NEVER make again. Or perhaps the creature
was taunting us, knowing that we couldn't record it. We may never hear that noise again, but I know we won't
ever forget it either...
Like I said in the beginning of this summary, we're not claiming to have found proof. We have no way to
determine what made that noise. Make your own conclusions... and feel free to e-mail
them to us, we're dying to know if anyone else has any logical explanations for that noise.
Well, that's our story for Hunt #7. Questions? Comments? E-mail us at [email protected].
