It was ridiculously early when Mike pulled in to pick me up. We packed, hopped in his truck, and headed down
to meet Shawn in Barnegat. After packing up the rest of our things, we hopped in Shawn's car and drove to Leeds
Point. Our goal for this trip was to find the house. Our confidence levels were high, due to the newest batch of
information we had just received.
Upon our arrival, we easily disguised ourselves and took the necessary precautions to prevent any kind of
trouble. We sprayed ourselves down with bugspray and took our knives with us. We had decided early on to set
up the car as base communications, with two of us on foot with portable radios. So we each took turns, one
would remain in the car while the other two went in. This time, we searched a completely different area of
the woods. And we came up with some interesting discoveries. This particular trip was much worse than the
last one for one main reason: BUGS. We were covered in them! Bugs everywhere. Gnats, mosquitos, chiggers,
ticks, flies, anything that flew made us their direct targets, and we were swarmed for most of the day. The
bugs prevented us from spending too much time on each particular venture into the woods, since they would
start to attack. We did our best, and stayed out for as long as possible. We all certainly paid for it, too!
Everyone was covered in bug bites.
What did we find? Well, we found some bricks back in the woods, bricks that had been manmade. We found a
14-foot piece of iron pipe, suggesting a plumbing system for a house. We found piles and piles of wood that
could be siding from a cabin... But as for cement foundations, nothing.
We are working slowly toward our goal, we're starting to majorly eliminate where the house could be.
Soon we'll have a small chunk of land narrowed down, and finding our target will be easier.
Also, a weird thing to note: on our tape recording of the trip, we were getting strange feedback... it
was a high pitched squeal. Occasionally, the tape started running faster than it had been and then slowed
down to its normal speed. At one point, Mike and I thought we had seen a shadow moving in the woods ahead
of us, and for a while we all stared at this large ominous shape at the end of the road, which we determined
was just trees we hadn't noticed earlier. All this added to the eerie atmosphere...
Well, that's our story for Hunt #2. Questions? Comments? E-mail us at [email protected].
