Screeches in Tuckerton |

| Last night around 1 AM my whole family was awoken by what sounded like a bird screeching. My dad thought it was an owl, but different. It sounded like it was coming from about 200 ft away, but it was very loud. It sort of sounded like a wounded dog barking in between the skreeches. But the "barking" noises were really high pitched like a little dog bark, only very loud. My dad shot the shotgun into the air to scare it a way, and it kept on making noise for a couple more minutes and then it stopped when we took the spotlight out and started walking aroung my yard. I thought a hunter shot a deer or something and the noise was coming from a wounded animal that was screaming in pain. But then I remembered watching a show on the Discovery Channel about the Jersey Devil, and the people said that it sounded like a horrible scream like you've never heard before, and that describes the sound I heard pretty well. It was a mix between a bird screech and a dying animal cry.
I've lived here all my life and I've never heard anything like that before. |
