I was sitting in the
woods on the outskirts of Colliers Mills Wildlife Area squirrel
hunting when I heard a weird noise in the woods. It was a loud
sniffing noise, like something was smelling me. So I figured it was a
buck because it is rut season for deer and I paid no mind to it. Then
not even 2 minutes later I heard a stick break. I turned around to
see what it was, and 10 feet behind me were 3 deer wasting no time
getting out of there. If I wouldn't have turned around they would have
probably run into me. I could tell they were scared because they weren't running but a
fast walk with their heads down in a sneak position. So they saw me,
snorted and ran. So I said to myself, "Their snorting scared
everything in the woods away," so I walked about 200 yds to another spot
and sat.
10 minutes or so went by, and I heard the sniffing noise
again about 80 yds out coming from where I was sitting the first time.
It was circling me and it would stop and make a grunting noise at me,
sniffing in the air real loud and continuing to circle me. It made it
about 180 degrees around me. It was dark out, so I made my way back to
the truck. I put my gun away and started to head out. I was turning around
a bend in the dirt road near where I had been sitting and I saw a black shadow
pass through the laurel bushes. I just continued to drive out...
