Medford Park has always been my favorite place to walk and relax my mind. The Rancocas Creek runs all the way through it. Even at night time I loved to take walks. That one night changed my courage to walk there at night again. It was summertime, and I had gone there at night with my boyfriend. I was on the side opposite Adam's horse farm. I heard a sound across the creek - heavy foot steps, perhaps the sound of horse steps. It did not surprise me to hear this knowing that a horse could be tromping around on the other side. But, at nightime? So late? Knowing about the Jersey Devil, my heart dropped, and I decided to turn and leave. We walked about 30 feet, and I stopped, ridiculing myself and my imagination. There was no way it could be the Jersey Devil. This area was too populated. Maybe a horse just wandered out of the enclosures. About a few moments passed, and I heard something I will never forget. Along with the footsteps, I heard a strange sound as if a horse was getting its throat cut. It was a very distinct sound, and I became overwhelmed with fear. My boyfriend remained skeptical. "It; was just a horse making a sound." Now, I know horses, and I have never heard a sound like that come from a horse. Without him, I turned around and quickly began to walk to the road. It was now the area at the graveyard. He followed from behind, but I was just about running out of there. To this day, I still cannot explain what could have made such an odd noise. But from that night on, I never walk at night at Medford Park.
