Me and a few of my friends were planning on camping outside of my house. We put the tent up early in the day... Then at night my boyfriend went to start a bonfire. He was outside by himself for at least 30 minutes. I was waiting for my cousin and friend to go outside but they were talking to my parents, so I went out approximately 3 to 4 minutes before them. As I was walking over to my boyfriend I heard something in the woods to the left of me - I thought it was just a deer and ignored it but when I went over to him he said something had been circling him for about 10 minutes. I really started to get scared, so I said "Let;'s go in." He said it was probably only a deer - not even 2 seconds later "it;" screamed that loud screech. I was so scared! My boyfriend even was ready to run inside. Then my cousin came out. I yelled to her "go; inside, something's out here." She laughed, figuring I was trying to scare her but then it screamed again and she ran inside so fast. I figured it was my older brother trying to scare us - not the case - he was in the front yard in his camper with his girlfriend. Then I really got scared.
We got my dad and my rottweiler outside. It was still screaming once about every 2 to 3 minutes, but it began to head off in the distance... Since then we've purposely had bonfires to see if it would come back. Once we had brought a tape recorder outside... We had been outside for a few hours and almost decided to go back in, but then my dog started growling and her hair was standing up. Even though she was a rottweiler, she was a baby - never growled at any dogs, even used to lick my guinea pig and cats... but I suppose if there was a wild animal, she might have growled at that. About 20 minutes after she started growling, "it;" came. This time there were about 7 of us outside; a couple of people went inside. I stayed and pressed record on my tape player. The sound didn't sound anything like what it sounded like in person, I guess the distance was too great. Same thing this time too - even though we all screamed at the top of our lungs, and even though my dog growled and barked over and over, it still hung around for at least 10 minutes each time before it left.
I remember that first night vividly - my boyfriend had a flashlight - we kept shining it out into the woods but couldn't see a thing. I have a strong memory of looking up about maybe a foot taller then I am when I heard the scream, as if this thing was not lower than me but also standing like I was. I guess that's why I really thought it was my brother trying to scare us. We haven't heard it in about almost 3 years.
It was the summer of 94 the first time we heard it... The bonfires we had were always in the summer. My brother told me that years before the first time I heard it, he and his friend were working on the car in the garage one night and heard the same scream from quite a distance away. Who knows?! I wish it would come back, I gotta know what it is. |
