| I saw a creature I believe was the Jersey Devil in Holmdel, NJ probably January 1989. My daughter and husband also saw the same creature. We were traveling along Route 35 south in front of the Lily Tulip paper cup factory which is no longer there. Now there is a large shopping center there and the grassy fields are unfortunately paved over. It was typically very dark at that bend in the road. We were traveling at around 45-50 miles an hour, when we swerved a little to avoid hitting what we thought was an animal near the side of the road. The creature stood up and made eye contact with us, scared by the headlights of the car. It had a wide face and I remember a scared look on its face, almost like a smile or startled look. It stood up on hind legs and must have beeen at least three feet tall standing. We all said simultaneously- "what was that?" We all had seen it. I told my husband to make a U turn on Laurel Avenue and come back around the highway so we could see it again. We came slowly around Route 35 but we didn't see the creature again. We all agreed that it looked like Gizmo from the movie - Gremlins. I remember big ears and a wide face with a wide grin and teeth. It was startled and I don't remember if it made a sound, but it stood straight up when it saw the car headlights. It definitely made eye contact with us. |
