Gary's Sighting

Location: New Jersey Date: 1975

Sometimes during the summer evenings, all of the neighborhood kids would play outside games like kick the can or hide and seek. This one particular night some of the parents got in on the action, and we played "Black; Cat", where everyone would hide and one person with a flashlight would walk around and try to find the rest of the gang. And we had boundaries, considering we lived on a quarter acre of land. It was getting late and some of the kids hadn't been found yet. All of a sudden there was this loud thud coming from the marshy area behind our house. And then the kids that weren't found came running from the thicket just beyond the boundary. The sound we all heard was something like a huge log or tree falling to the ground, loud enough to make everyone stop dead in their tracks except those who were close to the raucus. The parents questioned the kids that were off in the thicket, thinking they were playing a joke. But they denied it, and in fact were so shaken that they had to be walked home by my uncle. That same summer I was walking through one of our trails we made between mine and my friend's house. I stopped to listen for a noise I thought I heard. And sure enough, I heard it again, the sound of something taking a step or two and dragging something heavy through the brush. I know the trails between our houses, and there was no reason for anyone to be in that exact area other than us kids, and maybe one of the parents looking for us. I ran straight home scared to death. Later my friends and I set out to see what we could find. We found markings in the ground of that something was being dragged, but found no objects or prints. From then on our parents advised us to take the road to eachother's house, and we never set foot in the trails again.
