The Canoer's Sighting

Location: Cedar Creek, NJ Date: 1974

While canoeing in the Pine Barrens of South Jersey , when the Pine Barrens really were the Pine Barrens and rearly a car would pass you by on the road. We were being watched by a bent over figure along the river shoreline down by *Al Capone's old hideout.* It was a beautiful hot sunny day. When my cousin and friend said there was someone following us, we got a little nervous and paddled along a little faster so we could get back to our truck and get the heck out of there. About a mile from our truck we saw a man figure with wings on its back. It peered at us, we screamed and it flew off away from us. We never went back there again.

**(FYI -- This is a reference to the nursing home in Bayville NJ formerly known as Bayview Convalescent, now called Crystal Lake - this building was owned by Al Capone, used as a hotel in the early 1900's. As unbelievable as it sounds, underneath the building, there are tunnels that remain today which take you out under the lake in front of the building. I have been there and have seen this with my own eyes - these tunnels were used as Capone's secret stashing places for alcohol during Prohibition).
